DRONACHARYA AWARD

Behind every great sportsperson or sports team is a coach. The Dronacharya award recognises precisely those people who toil to prepare outstanding sportspersons and teams. Named after Drona, the guru of the warrior Pandava and Kaurava clans, the award instituted in 1985 is also a tribute to the ancient Indian custom of guru dakshina.

The award consists of a statuette, a scroll, full outfit with a tie, and a cash prize of Rs.  2,50,000. One of the most famous recipients of this award is Kenneth (Ken) Own Boson, the coach behind many of India's outstanding field event sportspersons.
